Out in the wild!!

It was pretty cold outside and the ‘Thanksgiving break’ was the best time to get into deep slumber. But how it would have been to spend a night in the deep woods? So, we guys planned for a trip to Huntsville State park, which is situated 6 miles southwest of Huntsville off Interstate 45 on Park Road 40, Texas. We left around 4 pm in two cars and reached Huntsville before the fall of night.
We were well equipped with sleeping bags, barbecue stuff rented from TAMU. We got some firewood from HEB to set up campfire. After paying the entry fees we hurried up to the camping site near the lake filled with alligators.

The cold breeze had started and luckily there were no thunderstorms or hails to spoil our mood. We guys started preparing the tent which would accommodate five people and the rest of us have to sleep in the car.

Gopal (our chief chef :-) ) joined us after an hour and it was party time. We started setting up the barbecue and soon gopal & mani went to action. We had some burgers, chicken and some other stuff for the dinner.

We could witness the movement of raccoons in the dark who were attracted by the smell of the barbecue. We started playing music from our ipods which were connected to a small speaker and were dancing around the campfire. We enjoyed a light meal and chatted for a long time bullying each other. Since, I didn’t have a proper sleep the previous day, I was very sleepy. We all retired for the night into our tents and it was pretty cold even inside the tent. I could witness the dew drops on the blade of grass outside the tent. The thought of alligators near the lake, the heavy cold breeze outside and the movement of raccoons filled my dreams. It was totally a new experience.
I woke up very early in the morning and the sun was shining bright. The sight of the silent lake was awesome, but unfortunately I could not find any alligators. They are were small children skating and biking down the winding roads near the camp site. I woke up everybody and we had some bread and butter for the breakfast. We started packing up things, cleared the garbage from the previous night and moved towards the boating area. The boat rental have not been opened and so we have to just take photos near the boating area. The scenery was fantastic as you could see on the picture to the left. Would you believe that this picture was taken with a Sony Ericsson W580i mobile camera.

We were about to leave the place when one guy informed us that we could walk around the hiking trail to watch wildlife. So, we found a trail path and started moving. The curvy path with ups and downs, intermittent mini bridges along the way, the buzzing sound of some insects, the waters in the lake moving silently alongside …hmm I think I should write a poem, but that is not my cup of tea :-) Nonetheless, we could not find any White-tailed deer, opossum, armadillo, migratory waterfowl as mentioned on the boards along the trail.

After taking a couple of photos, we bid adieu to the heavenly paradise. It was almost noon and we were very hungry. We had a wholesome meal at Indian Wok in Houston and reached college station before twilight. It was one of the memorable trips in my life.
